Well said that man!
I understand that there are guys out there that are green and need to learn and must work their way up the ladder. I also understand that hand cutting is a dying skill. Contractors out there offering 50-70 a day will soon find that any up and coming talent will have been pushed out of it (probably working for more money in tesco's). There seems to be a certain irony that in order to save money you eventually remove the very people that help earn it. I am only as good as the guys that work for/with me. Andrew

I don't pay less than £100 a day, but no one is ever going to pay £150 a day for cutters. That isn't to say they aren't worth it, but that simply it isn't economical as customers won't pay it.
At the end of the day, a cutter is only worth as much as the customer will pay. They don't have to take the work - if no one will cut for £70 a day, then the rate will go up or the work won't get done. |

sorry guys should have noted these were prices i was getting payed and paying 10-15 years ago when cutters were cutters and new how to do a good shift

I get paid 80.00 a day self employed for felling all day mixed hard and soft , cutting to size, stacking and brashing. Provided with saw and fuel.....
What do people think of that? I think that it should be 10.00 per ton! and some days i should be on at least 120 a day!!! Last edited by swinny; 14-05-12 at 09:34 PM.. |

yes they will i had a meeting with estate factors and through explaining realistic needs and costs we came away with £20 per hour doing sitka avr 12inch dia tonnage was not an option due to location and conditions same rate to fell sycamore for scottish natural heritage which i think is a fair rate to both parties

i was paid £150+vat a day 3 years ago on a job cutting trees on harvesting site, but it was 80 miles to the job

Price per ton seems a bit ' old school ' to me . Correct me if i'm wrong but how can you pay the same price for hanging up every tree compared to a nice open canopy forest ? I'm genuinely intrigued ..

Being provided with a saw and fuel makes it much sweeter as fuel and oil is a tenner before you start.
