Weight of a stem...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've an old client who has asked me to remove a fir of around 45m height.

It sits at the bottom of a steep slope on the bank of a lake.

It will need to be topped out before felling due to proximity of electric lines.

The stem has a 100cm DBH and does not narrow much for 20m.

My client would like to recover the stem for possible future milling.

Question is...

How much will this stem weigh?

I might have access to a 20t 360 with which to drag it up the slope.

Regards

Ty

What lengths of timber does your client wants to the stem milled to ,surely not 20 metres.so why not cross cut off bank and remove in sections that will fit the mill.then stem weight will be irrelevant and a 20 ton digger will handle logs like Match sticks. Also distance to power lines will dictate final felling length
