Wire rope supplier

Hi all,

 

I need a length of wire rope, can anyone suggest a retailer.

 

50m ish

eye at both ends

to suit 6ton winch.

 

Its to extend my winch line to pull over an awkward tree.

I don't know if they're still in business, used to use Hall's at Rickmansworth for winch /crane cables . They'd swage on whatever end you needed from stock. Down in Hampshire ask ship/boatyards or marine chandlers. Crane companies often have stock of scrap damaged cable- not always suitable for winching though.

Sorry just googled to check. - "hall bros lifting gear" Rickmansworth, is what you need ,

Bridon,..Doncaster...They are anufactures and will supply with eyes.

Another thing worth mentioning,..if you may want to use the rope for winching in the future you must get the correct wrap of rope,.i think from memory it is r/h Laings lay,.Bridon would advise you on correct one. Most wire rope wraps are designed for fixed rope applications and will unwrap if used for winching,this is because the load can roll , whereas in crane work etc its straight up an down lifting.

Thanks for this advice, I was not aware of differing rope types. So useful info.

 

I'll be using this length of wire between the winch hook and the load so it won't be wound round the drum.

It will be a straight pull onto a bow shackle.

They're in Watford now. I use them for my wire ropes lifitng chains and the like very good. Also sell some fantastic padlocks.
