Peddler's licence for wood delivery?

Hi all !

I've been trying to understand legislation here about selling firewood through delivery and collection.

For instance I will deliver a load of wood to a customer which he purchased in advance and he pays either by bank debit or cash on delivery - no license needed right?

But if somebody else comes off the street and there is an extra spare load in the van, and he decides to buy it and also pay in cash then I need peddlers license for that right? As this counts as a streets sales activity

If somebody pops in to the Warehouse and decides to buy off and collect himself - do you need any sort of license for such sales activity?

Pedlar's certificate (All UK)

If you sell door to door or in the street without a stall or fixed location you may need a pedlar's certificate.

To be a pedlar you must:

trade on foot

carry your goods with you (although case law has suggested that a small means of transporting goods may be acceptable)

generally keep on the move, pausing to make sales

But, if someone approaches you without any soliciting from you, then you haven’t actively been pursuing sales in the manner of a “Pedlar”, I would also suggest it would take more than one “sale” by this method within say a 1 day/1 week before it would be considered anything other than chance.

I am sure most workers in arb have been approached by someone who just so happed to be passing who stops to ask if they can have/buy wood, or have some wood chip for their garden, etc, etc.
