Didn't make much news in little England; I was in Aberdeen when it was all kicking off and the main road near it disappeared.

 

Seems like they're getting somewhere with shoring it up. Imagine a whole castle falling into the river; the river was 40m (approx.) away previously!

pretty mad time up here for sure, clean up effort will go on all year and more.

 

they got very lucky with the castle, didnt think it would see the week out the way it was going.

Yep poor John Gordon, rents out a heap of land to Balmoral estate, and has other tenant farmers, a very healthy single farm payment, and the local council stumped up £100, 000 to shore up bank, bet the miserable old bugger is laughing

No sour grapes at all. Why should they use public money to assist a private residence. Should have claimed on his insurance and if he couldnt get any, that would have just put him in the same position as many other people. Hope the council pursue him for the money they have spent out.

I was more on about the building than the owner anyway; it has history and character; perhaps those so afflicted and downtrodden by aristocracy up north should learn to be pleased for others; you'll develop less stomach ulcers yourselves. Take it you'll all be clapping if it fell into the river then? :thumbdown:

That's great footage. Love the lens flare as the rising sun tracks behind the castle.

Tiz a funny thing with insurance because by time they got permission to go ahead with the works the castle probably would have already fallen.... and at what cost would that be?!

I was amazed how quickly the ground was eroded! Glad that history has been saved. Awesome looking place.
