What to do if an employer won't pay?

Hi All,

I have been working as a self-employed groundie for various tree surgeons for several years, and this is the first time I have encountered this problem. A guy I have done a couple of days' work for is refusing to pay me for spurious reasons. Does anyone have any tips on what my practical options are.

I live in Scotland, so possibly the details of how small claims courts etc work could be different from in England.

Any advise much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dru

They legally have 28 days to pay you, from what i understand as i have worked as a commercial diver under the CIS scheme. However employers rarely adhere to this, cashflow pending etc!

Depends what you agreed in the contract and timescales may be x days after doing the work, invoicing your client or your client receiving money from end customer.
