Best type of log store?

:confused1:

I am planning to build a log store to keep my processed wood in before the winter is upon us.

I had initially intended to use old (strong) pallets to form a base, with (gappy) pallets forming the back and sides, and a tarp thrown over the top.

I'm now contemplating this design but with a sloping felt roof instead.

Just to confuse the issue, I'm wondering whether a small portal frame type structure using welded angle sections and box might offer a stronger solution.

Any advice would be appreciated.

P.s I'll be making it myself.

Hi,

If possible orientate it so the sun gets the front & the prevailing wind at the rear, it seems to work quite well but others may have their opinion

comme ça:

Wow, that's quite a log store! I'm jealous of the amount of wood you have too

How deep is it? I was thinking of something to store logs that I've already cut down to 10" odd lengths and split, so I can just go and fill a barrow and bring them up to the house. Yours looks like it's housing cordwood.

Oooh la la, - log store envy! Thanks for the comments,

Turtle - its nearly twice the size of the photo - more log store porn tomorrow when the suns out!

Jon - we have a Rayburn 612M that supplies our hot water as well as cooking & radiators and a Villager A low canopy in the living room.

We run the Rayburn from about end October to March ish as our thermo tubes take over for hot water or we end up with water at 85 degrees!

The villager get used December to Feb approx depending on temps

How deep is it?

Most of the wood is 1 metre length & sits on pallets 1.2 m deep, the roofing material is compressed asbestos (not the dangerous stuff) 1.5m deep with a few pallets and some ash trees at the back to keep some of the rain off it.

this one too.

simple to make and does the job.

the roof is old fence panel slats...

Very nice Steve,

Might need to recalibrate my ambition to something nearer that. I was all for welding up a small barn lol.

Now that I look at the beautiful simplicity of those designs, I'm leaning back towards wood.

Thanks
