Best basic setup for newbie climber?

Hi all, been a long time since carving took over my tree climbing career so don't know what's out there these days! I have a mate just starting out and need to know what's a comfortable setup, good harnesses etc. I've recommended a very basic setup using ropes as friction knots and no shiny bits.

Any thoughts?

I thought get a long rope and cut a 5m section off for a side strop...
