Woodburners - flat top vs canopy

I've currently got a stove with a canopy but I think I may have missed a trick by not having a flat top stove. Does anyone use their flat top for cooking? I'm thinking of replacing my stove with a home made range, something similat to an Esse Ironheart stove.

I have a villager Chelsea and wish now I had used the rear flue and left the top for the stew pot.

I will be putting a new stove in next year and will have a rear flue and flat top next time.

I rented a house with a villager Chelsea and spent the whole 12 month wishing I had a different stove 😁😁

Definitely I would go for a flat top, just gives more options

aye flat tops the way to go, handy if there's a power outage my granddad used to do toast on the top of the stove never did get his secret any time I've tried just ended up with bits of burnt bread stuck to the top!

yep flat top, we have a town and country, has a kettle on it all the time

Flat top is a great place to keep the cafitiere warm

Another vote for the flat top stove. Think stews, pot roasts, kettle, plate warming etc. Come to think of it I might even get rid of the Mrs's electric iron and get her one of those that you heat up on the stove

i flat top for me too. lots of stoves have a special hot plate on the top with fins on the bottom like the legendary jotul 602

 

personally i have a waterford erin (sp?) which is good. we also have a rayburn like the esse's which does our hot water, rads and cooking - great but we prob do a wheel barrow or there abouts o f wood per day (peak winter)......so beware if your looking at an esse/ironheart you'll be fair tanning the wood if you try to do something which will do rads, baths, cook and heat the room

 

this look mint jotul 404 and only cook and space heat which is probably a good thing...
