Does anyone know of any old school tree surgery videos out there?.

I am interested in watching them and seeing the difference in how things of changed over the years in tree surgery and the techniques and methods that were used back in the day.

i have seen alot of films from the 1930s/40s of the loggers in california when they spike up the really tall redwoods and knock the top out with an axe and they are very interesting to watch.

really looking for stuff from the 1970s/1980s which i have only seen one from then and it was Charlie and George chainsaw safety video.

if anybody could recommend any or have any links to any videos that would be great :thumbup1:

I was told when I started climbing by the boss who had been in the industry at the time for over 50 years.

You can't buy bottle!

Bottle Meaning courage!

I was the first climber to be given a top handle ( husky) and a fancy orange rope!

It didn't take me long to work out what he meant!

What an Amazing climber!!

I started tree work in the eighties no one had or wore chainsaw trousers, a helmet ( rarely ) safety boots , some used an ascending / descending device called a Haebler ( not sure of spelling ) but would be considered lethal nowadays , the 3 knot system was replaced by the "new " prussik loop ... things were very different ... the main thing was that virtually no one had a video camera !!! .. hence very few films !!

I worked also for an old boy 20 yrs ago, same ilk as stephen.

No pulleys,fancy gear etc.

What a teacher.

Elf+safety nightmare by todays standards.

Question?how many people know how to do this job, without the lovely gear?

Jomoco:biggrin:

Ha ha one of my favourite films, I never got why Newman disassociated him self from it in later years as it's probably one of his best films.. He does some spar tail action in that as well.

Books very good as well.

Great second clip as well jomoco.
