My customers asked me to turf her plant boarders as she wants to a low maintenance garden now as she's old. But they been left to become full of weeds plus a lot of plants.

My question is How do I turf it without it taking me hours removing all the plants with a fork and costing the customer a lot ?

guess you could strim hard down, rake off and wait for a little re growth, spray off.

repeat a couple times with spray. maybe level with a little soil over to ready for turf and then selectively treat any regen.

or mini digger and skip etc to remove plants then resoil/turf or seed

There is no shortcut for preparing the ground properly before turfing. Why spend all that money on turf to have it go brown, lumpy or have weeds grow through it?!

Here's what I wood do -

Cut it all down

Dig out all the roots

Add extra topsoil if needed to bring the level up

Then lay turf

Even then you may not get all the roots/ bulbs up and these will push thru the turf when they grow but can be mowed away or left if not in the way.

After saying all that you could just do wat my old man does in his garden just keep mowing over the old beds until it turns to grass which it eventually will and fill in any holes as needed, ( he doesn't like spending money) ;)
