A different big butt log splitter

Has anyone spotted this type of splitter yet? Same concept as a fruit corer for example, pretty neat. Slow (ish) system, but consider all the time and physical effort saved not hauling oversized halved/quartered lumps back for re-splitting in a conventional horizontal splitter setup with a similar sized lump.

It would be better if it could split 3 or 4 billets at a time like this one.

But obviously in longer logs.

A further refinement to this machine could be to load a second log while the first log is still on top of the splitter and make an attachment to the ram on either side that pulls the remains of the log back into the centre to save the manual bit???

I reckoned the "Tempest" in the second clip was a very efficient set up with no wasted ram travel time on the backstroke.(seen working at the 2012 APF Show)

I also like the first one.

cept he needs a mini elevator(or a simple hydraulic pusher perhaps ?) to raise the split billets up to a waist high table for onward swinging into the billet bundler.

And like most logging ops requires more than one operator for a slick operation.

Horses for courses.

P.S.

For ussens here in the "Island of Ireland" a Guiness dispenser would be most appropriate!

i'll give my 2 cents...

two things spring to mind:

1) wood, being a renewable energy, is being split by a process that requires the use of fossil fuels. this seems contradictory to me. or am i thinking silly?

2) such a long time to split one bit of log. seems very inefficient. and too much operator input. in my mind i'm thinking, "load log, split it in one fell swoop".
