David, look at the Makita dolmar and echo trimmers too, they're all good.

Tanaka if your on a budget whatever it takes to get a start....you can always upgrade later

Might be worth a look at the ryobi range as there cheaper and you can also buy the multi tool range and add to it as you go. Would be decent enough to get you started

Efco mate bloody good hedge cutters I have the one with the adjustable handle can't fault it !

 

It's that sharp I practically lost my finger when I first got it haha

 

Not sure on price as it was a birthday/Xmas present but I think there around £250-£300

I recommend some of the tool shows or tool auctions , might be able too pick up a good bargain
