I was wondering if anyone had removed the spark arresters on any of the new husky saws? My questions are did you notice any power difference, I know they sound louder! I use premium fuel now as well to see if that makes any more power! I think it goes better in bigger timber but I am not sure if it is just in my head!

Cheers Joe

Yep and yep . 560 and 540 and any other saws that have them . It does make a difference albeit slight to start with but when spark screen eventually gets clogged the difference will be more....:001_smile:

Took mine out recently and power increase is minimal but did exist. It is harder on the ears but still sounds good to the point of getting a buzz from it lol

Taken mine out of all of my saws. I can't tell you about any difference in power. If any, with a clean grid the difference is minimal.

I just don't want my saws to clog up and I don't consider my work environment as highly flammable. 😉

It rarely gets dry enough in the UK or Ireland to necessitate a spark arrester on a chainsaw. I have ran chainsaws without arresters in the Sierra Nevada mountains in 40* weather with near 0% humidity without ever catching all those pine needles on fire. I was with a fire crew, so wasn't too worried if I had to put something out.

Premium fuel will usually give less energy than more unless you have the compression and timing advance to necessitate it as it burns slower and is more difficult to ignite. My last 'stock appearing race' chainsaw had over 225 psi and ran fine on 94 octane fuel without detonation. It didn't detonate on 94ron until it hit 245 psi.
