Forestry industry safety accord updates (FISA)

Hi folks,

 

I am currently looking in to this FISA Updates for working on the forest commission ground, has any one on here had these updates? and what were your experiences? ive noticed there are various courses etc.

 

worth it or waste of time?

 

how much was the course if you were on one?

Ive recently done my large tree and windblow course, but been told this wasn't good enough etc and I have to go through FISA update course. sounds like a hassle

I see the FISA has appointed a new chairwoman. Yes being the FISA they have NO forestry background.

 

How FISA can dictate if NPTC, LANTRA and the likes are not worthy of their approval is beyond me!

 

I did enjoy emailing the previous chairman Steve. His responses highlighted his lack of knowledge of the inherent dangers of chainsaw use

If they pull there finger out i might think about it. But Lantra will soon have refesher couses up and running, that should be cheaper and be more universaly excepted.

fisa was created because HSE said the FORESTRY industry must self regulate its safety or it was going to come down hard (as hard as then have done on the building industry) so judging by its feable attempts at the moment it will be hard hats and hi viz for all of the foresters in the country

It's not training as such more a look to see how you go about actually working on a site from setting up the site to felling if your tickets are out of HSE recommended timings then the commission and there contractors will only recognise fisa and no other!!!!!!!!! The fisa assessor will then decide if your competent or not all fisa assessors are from forestry back grounds
