Word work on a hollow Ring

How would you guys go about seasoning a hollow ring of wood like that without it splitting? The shrinkage would split it surely

 

No, it shouldn't split. The splits are caused by the difference in shrinkage around the ring between the rings in the middle and the ones at the outside. Take away the middle and it should control it.

What wood is it?

I've had van loads of apple in the past that mostly stayed in tact, & still is if it's been kept dry. And ash... which can be relied on to split & move, but hollowed has been fine. I still got a lump looks like slimer of ghostbusters, been down 6 - 8 years & not split. Last summer it had an ash seedling growing inside his mouth, I thought was fitting. & he's been outside all the time. Funny lump tho not just a tube, although the others were.
