Empty yards.

I used to rent a yard with a barn on it. The access was average! The rent was cheap. All this was done on a "gentlemans" agreement. Then the land agent that takes care of the business side of things got involved. He advised the owner that the rent he was charging was way under the going rate. So I moved out and gave up the log game. That yard/barn stands empty just like the day I left it. I made the site more secure than it had been for years. Am I missing something? Or is it better to rent these units out for, "little and often" or leave them standing empty?

Yes , oh yes

Don't ever trust a farmer to keep to an original agreement especially when they get talking to someone= wife/new girlfriend/land agent.

Once they see you making money- they want some of it. Often because they are bad in business and can't rely on their own ability.

Good riddance = I say. Sorry to be so harsh but it's true.

I only brought this subject up as I drove up the track past the barn (I did say access was average) today. The farmer I payed each week was "as good as gold". He's getting old now, so has handed things over to the family. On the whole I agree with what has been said. The farmers I have delt with and worked for are a bread onto their own!
