Hi

someone has a couple of acres of woodland that they want cleaning up

By cleaning up I mean fallen trees and branches

The problem is its a long long way away for me to go and have a look to see if the jobs worth doing

Is there a way of working out what dead wood there will be with out even seeing it

Just weighting for him to come back to me about what type of trees they are

Many Thanks

JT

the fc yeild tables give you % mortality but they wont help much as there are too manny veriables

type of trees is one thing what are there managment objectives ie tidy up for what reasion, age of stand, rack layout if any, what operations have been done in the the wood before, Basal Area, wind through risk, soil type, location, rain fall, amount of wind blown damage trees / dead trees, quality of trees, site terrain (is it steep)

my advise is to go see the site as if he is not telling you any this info stright off it gives me the fealing they not sure what to do with the wood, espicaly if they dont know what species of trees are in the wood and dead is need in a wood and at times you have to fell timber just to make dead wood for certifaction

ditto the above - the only timber that should be removed from the wood is living stuff - there is no way of guessing the amount of deadwood to any degree of certainty- if its in a wild state there should be loads of deadwood - great. If it has to be tidied so it can look like a greeting card then at least stack the deadwood on site, eh!?!
