Ranger Prop Query

A UJ on the rear prop of my 2007 Ford Ranger needs replacing. Does any one know if I took the rear prop off, could I still drive it??? I remember doing this with a Defender but that was permanent four wheel drive.

Take prop off lock diffs should run on front. But wouldnt advise driving to far as you will wind the diff up and smash it in to pieces.

Just disconnect it and run in 4wd it will get you about but drive like a dog, done the same recently.

It will drive fine, don't give it too much beans though. It won't wind the diff up, but you are putting all of the drive through the front axle which it isn't really designed to do long term.

I recently replaced a UJ on the rear of my 56 plate (old shape) Ranger - the part was over £140 from Ford but a Land Rover UJ was exactly the same size and a tenth of the price! Get your verniers out before parting with your hard earned...

Got it sorted today in around 2 hours - drove into NTS, up on the ramps, my friend took the prop off, gave me his car keys and off I went to CPS Drivelink on the Team Valley, handed in the propshaft, 15 minutes later new UJ was installed and others greased, back in the car, pull into NTS, up on the ramps, prop back on in a couple of minutes. Jobs a good'un!

These uj joints are a common size I got mine for local bearings suppliers for £8 just for future ref as Ford wanted an arm and leg.
