Impact driver.

Can anyone recommend a decent impact driver or combi drill/driver?

 

I need something (cordless) that will put a decent sized screw straight into timber for formwork, milling etc.

 

I don't know much about torque, volts, amps, Li-ion etc. so don't know what to look for.

 

I tend to like Makita tools, but the prices seem to go from £90 to about £400 for different models, so some help of some of the chippie types on here would be appreciated.

a friend has a bosch impact gun 18v, very very handy but pricey, bosch blue tools are professional, green are diy...

Try the ones that are yellow and black, 14 or 18 V.

My Dewalt is excellent but I know many who recommend the Makita equivalent but I think both are pretty good. I have found the step from a cordless screwdriver to an impact driver is like the step from an old fashioned screwdriver to a cordless screwdriver.

Mark make sure you get 3 amp battery's as they hold charge longer 18v is the one to go for. At one of our local suppliers they have a Dwalt 18v combi drill and impact driver with 3 3amp lithium iron battery for £327 or the same in Makita for a tenner more.

If it's something you don't need to use all the time, I really rate the ryobi one+ 18V impact driver. I've got the Lithium Ion batteries for it and it last ages on a charge. Did the Dog Kennel roof the other week and was putting 10x4 screws in with no pilot holes no bother (probably best part of 50 or 60) and a few of the big spax coach screws too and only swapped batteries towards the end and it wasn't freshly charged when I started. Bought it not expecting big things but it's been really not bad for a DIY grade tool.

 

Think it was about £70 bare, but B&Q were doing the drill/driver with two Lithium batteries and charger for £99 - two batteries and a charger were over £80 to buy separately so it made sense to get the drill set.

Ive got the makita 18v-li impact driver & combi drill twin pack. It will drive a 15mm x 6m screw straight in & back out no problem. I paid £350 a couple of years ago
