Simple as the title really . As long as im in this game i have never really come across any more than the occasional small tree . And i cant remember ever burning it .

Looking at all the firewood processor promotional videos its very popular/common in the scandinavian countries obviously .

Theres some after growing into a plantation im looking at and im wondering what sort of firewood it will make either mixed or on its own .

I'm no firewood guy but I burn a lot of my arisings at home.

Birch is very good but once split must be stored in the dry and burnt within a year or two.

I have found in a mixed pile left outside with oak for instance, the birch will have turned to mush by the time the oak has seasoned.

Yes if it gets re wetted. The main problem I found with birch was that even small bits need to be split as the bark is so waterproof. Until the moisture gets below 20%mc wwb various bugs are still actively devouring the wood, and birch is very perishable. So as the products of decay are water and carbon dioxide if the water cannot get out it keeps the wood wet enough to continue into mush.

Having just split half a Canter load (definitely overweight so maybe 2 tonne) of freshly felled birch I hope to get it dry enough. Will set to with the axe to deal with the rest next week as this is half of my yearly requirement.

Silver Birth for me as well. King of Norway I noticed as I lived there for 5 years and its all they want to burn, even import it from East Europe. Seems to be an open secret here in Scotland.

Also it burns well unseasoned.
