Good smaller vehicle for carrying logs?

Hi

I work on a forestry estate and am finally moving to a new place with a log burner and am looking at changing vehicle to something that is capable of bringing a decent load of logs home with me (doesn't have to be huge as I have access to more every day). Only problem is I ideally want to keep the running costs + road tax etc down (also do quite a few long journeys around the country at weekends) so don't fancy or even really need a 4x4 or pick up. Just wondering if anybody had any experience with any decent estate cars or the like for carrying logs (don't really have room for a small trailer at the new place)? Access at work isn't really an issue as I can bring logs to the yard for loading up, only problem is the track up to the yard is a bit rough and will hammer the suspension with a full load. Any ideas?? Cheers

You could do a lot worse than a Ford Focus estate or a Vauxhall Astra estate

Forestry commission use either of them for forester's company cars. Whilst maybe not having all the bells and whistles that some other manufacturers offer, they do offer superb reliability and service items that are cheap and easy to source
