Firewood handling / storage/ drying

Hi lads. At the moment I cut and split or process outside into a pickup or Ifor Williams then back into my shed and chuck it off onto pallets to dry out before reloading at a later date into bulk bags on my skid steer forks. Was wondering wether to process / split into ibc cages or spud boxes then store in the barn to dry then either deliver in them or re bag or loose load. Just cuts one or two lots of handling out. Would appreciate advice / ideas. Regards rob

We cut into potato boxes then use a box rotator to tip into the pickup for delivery. It works well for us but it depends how much you want to invest.

Alternatively you could cut directly into vented bags.

Yeah I'm not a fan of bags. We paid £60 for our boxes but that was new with double bottoms. You can get used ones cheap or ibcs much cheaper but we thought the boxes were safer to stack and they're bigger.

If you want a box rotator to tip boxes you'll need a decent sized loader because they are heavy.

It's more personal preference I think. Ibcs are cheaper and a bit smaller. Potato boxes are a bit bigger and can be broken (but rarely - our 160 have had a couple of thousand tons in them and I've only replaced about 5 planks).

We went with potato boxes because they can be stacked up to 7 high if needed and they're more stable in general. Nothing wrong with ibcs though and there's some good deals on them.
