How much to fit a flu liner

Hi all,

We want to replace our open fire with a wood burner. I have a second hand yeoman 4 kW burner in good condition that I want to put in.

 

If it was up-to me I would just put in a check plate above it and use the old chimney as is but the missus is convinced we need a liner or we will all die of carbon monoxide! So I have agreed.

 

Trouble is she has had two quotes so far both in the region of £1400. Does this sound right?

 

And if this is what it would cost to install one how hard would it be to do it my self?

It's an absolute doddle, and your missus is dead right, it'll work much better with a liner.

Fitted a flexible liner for our neighbours. All done in a couple of hours but it was a nice wide straight chimney and the pot was in good nick. Think they got the flu liner and cap for £400ish

got ours done 5 years ago, big tall chimneyhead and 2 storeys of 11 foot ceilings, they supplied the liner and chinaman's hat, put it in, did the register plate, connected up and sealed and tested the new stove. All for £750. Other quoptes were £900 and £1100.

What happens if the house burns down after you've fitted your own. Does the Insurance company still pay out?

Cost me about £800 about 4 years ago. Two storey cottage with inglenook fireplace and new chimney hat. Took two blokes about two hours. The liners aren't cheap.

Price is about the going rate. As Eggs says insurance is a factor,i was under the impression that once the stove and flue liner and vermiculite was put in, then the appliance had to be commisioned and signed off in the event of a house fire and claim.
