Canada or US?

Alrighty then good folks of AT. Looking at planning my next big trip to the US but have a curve ball just thrown in. I had planned to fly from NYC to Minneapolis and pick up a car, drive Wyoming and Montana (mainly Glacier National Park) and then head to Seattle but.............someone suggested that Jasper and Banff might be more spectacular, less packed and nicer driving so I'm also considering a round trip drive from Vancouver. Has anyone done either of these areas and if so, give their thoughts. Ta.

I have done the trip from Vancouver to Banff and Jasper. Really very spectacular the whole way. We did a big loop over about 2weeks camping in early June, which to be honest was a bit early once up in the mountains (had some chilly weather and some snow) a lot of the hiking trails were still closed. But it was quiet.

Worth spending couple of days in Vancouver, beautiful city, clean, friendly, small enough to walk around.

We went through Okanagan valley, very beautiful wine country, not what you'd expect in BC!

Found Banff a bit 'disney-esque' nice enough but very geared up to tourists. Banff National Park was stunning though and the Icefields Parkway is spectacular the whole way up to Jasper. We preferred Jasper NP as it was quieter and felt more wild.

Drove back to Vancouver over a couple of days via Mt Robson, Lillooet, Squamish. Again spectacular the whole way with amazing views.

Hope that helps

I have relatives on Vancouver Island and have been a couple of times. Vancouver is a lovely city, clean and easy to get about. We have travelled to Whistler and Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley and it is a beautiful place. Plus its Canadian so every where is really clean and tidy and the people are really friendly!!
