transit key turns but no start

Whats up? Is the key getting worn?

 

50% of the time the key turns, dash powers up but no starter motor.

 

Had to try 8 or 9 times to start it today.

 

No spare key sadly

 

Selling the van at the moment so just wanted to be clear about the issue with any potential buyer.

Sounds like it's not detecting the chip in the key so immobiliser is staying on

Try going to timpsons and seeing if they can make a new key. They can put the codes on.

There is a fuse that stopps it from starting and it can be a bad earth thay are known for it because stater get hit with lot of water

Solenoid on the starter motor perhaps.

Ignition switches are fairly common failures on transits , dead easy to change .

If the dash lights up as normal then it's probably the starter motor (solenoid), or a dodgy connection

 

If it was the immobiliser then the immobiliser light would be going mad.

If it was the ignition switch (changed mine last week!) then the lights wouldn't come on/or not stay on

Check starter motor isn't cracked, seen sparks jumping out of solenoid when trying to turn over
