Hi all

I've got a new lap top and it wants to know my server address to sign me into my email.

How do i find it out?

Ive looked on google and my poor little tree cutters brain can't make sense of the answer.

Can anyone out there translate computer boffin talk into tree man speak?

any help much appreciated.

Cheers Dan

Having to put in a server address to log in to email doesn't sound right IMO - particularly if you are using a web mail service eg Gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc.

I presume you have launched the Outlook Express wizard and are looking to connect your email to that? You can if you want obviously, but you just don't have to if you use the web mail.

What exactly have you clicked/tried to do?

No- IP is just a weblocation for your machine. Server is the device that you would go through to access a network eg if you worked in an office and wanted to connect this PC to the office network. This is why I think your need for a server address is wrong as I presume you are just trying to access the web from home?

Sorry I don't use a Mac so Im not sure what you are talking about, but still, the need for server details sounds wrong to me.

Go to whichever email provider you use and they should have a section on settings to use when setting up mail on a Mac.

They will be something like this for hotmail/outlook -

Account type: POP3

Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.live.com

Yer go mate.

Read this...Windows Mail: setting up an account from start to finish

Then find your current details by going to your current e.mail -inbox say-

Click on tools on the toolbar

Click on accounts in the ddbox

click on Mail of the tabs that appear in the new box which will give your e.mail

Then properties at the right hand side

Then Servers of the tabs that appear in that box

That will give you your POP3,pop and smte details that the first bit which you just read told you what to do with.

Happy Days

Yourn
