Hi

Can anyone tell me what this is please

It is at the base of a beech tree. It is white in colour with a tinge of creamy yellow in places. When bruised goes a orange/ red colour. It grew last year and that has now gone black and looks dead. Much Further up the tree there are two separate brackets od dryads saddle.

Thanks

Ann

Hi Ann, hard to say for certain from that picture, but K. deusta is a very real probability given the description with it. That, along with Meripilus giganteus, are the two fungi you'd rather not see on any big tree, especially a beech!

Depending on the size of the tree, and any 'targets' within its range, you may want to get the tree inspected and assessed in person...
