ID help please

Anyone? Sorry I can't get any detailed pictures of the leaves, there are no lower branches. From a distance the leaves looked poplar like, but they don't seem to be the colour I would expect? Grey birch perhaps?

Poplar.

 

They come out golden yellow before turning green, one patch is still like this.

 

Also the scar formation is V like under the branches which is visible in this photo on the nearest tree.

Thanks for the replies everyone - good job there's a thread today saying it's okay for firewood. Going to have nine of the big buggers on Monday!

 

Nice strait stuff like that will be top banana IMHO . Burns fine . Keep it dry once its seasoned coz if it gets rained on it sucks it all back in .
