Whats this?

I've picked up some free wood from a mate that I'm planning on using for firewood - question is what is it?

 

He's not been in the house long so has never seen the tree in leaf. Apparently he had roots all over his lawn.

 

Is firewood the best use for this?

Thats looking like a positive ID for cherry then :thumb up:

 

I started splitting it then thought 'hang on' - maybe I'll keep a few of the big bits back for something else.

 

Theres a real big stump thats probably too much bother to cut up for firewood anyway.
