066 - Repair or Replace?

Hi,

Just been using the 066 and it came to an abrupt stop, which is never good, so I've stripped in down and the bottom end bearing has disintegrated.... I'm now wondering whether to slap it on Ebay and use the money toward a 660 or similar OR to take out the crank and replace? I assume it's easier to put a whole new crank and con rod in?? Thanks

Its an arse ach verses cost thing . If the pot and piston are still good maybe crank and seals if you can do it your self . How much is your time worth how much are the parts against the cost of a new saw ( which will last a few years ) minus what ever you get for the knackered one . Its a poser !

Easy enough to put another crank in them. I certainly wouldn't want to buy a saw simply for that although it still will prob still sell for more than a realistic price broken.

Obviously pays to put new crank bearings and seals in whilst its apart and she'll go on for a few more years yet and you will get change out of £20 for that (bearing and seals).

If you get stuck or in difficulties im not a million miles away from you if you need a hand.

Cheers for offer of help wiseco, if I get stuck I'll give you a shout.

There's a crank + seals & bearings on eBay for about £80 which seems a good price, not sure on the quality though? I've only recently fitted a non genuine pot and piston anyway. I was planning on getting a 36" bar to replace the 25" so I could do some milling but if I do that the amount I've spent on the saw I could've got a decent 660! Is there much between the 066 & 660?

I don't use it enough to warrant a new machine, used 660s on eBay are crazy money...if anyone knows one for sale I could be interested.

Fitted a couple of aftermarket crankson 660s, on one machine the owner seized it by lending it the machine out:001_rolleyes: the other is still running to my knowledge.

If the top end is still OK, fit a new crank, it will take a day but good satisfaction!
