MS180 clutch question

Hi,

With my newly acquired MS180 the chain moves a little when idling, the occasional jerk of an inch or so. With the bar removed the clutch drum/sprocket spins all the time the engine's running, although it can be held still with relatively little pressure. Idle speed is set as low as it can be, the screw won't move any further. The needle bearing seems fine, and I've given it a bit of grease, inside of the clutch drum appears clean and undamaged.

Worth replacing the clutch springs as a matter of routine? Or is there anything else worth checking?

Thanks, Tony S

It is worth making sure there is no twine around the crankshaft and that the drum, clutch and inner area are clean. The clutch comes off by turning the clutch clockwise (left hand thread) and don't use a centre steel piston stop - use the double ended nylon stihl one.

The springs can be popped off with a screwdriver and replaced with long nose pliers and using string on the hook of the other end to pull the spring on to the hole on the other shoe.
