Forestry Tyres

Hi all I have a Valtra 6550 with a 560tl on the roof.

I currently have Michelin all round and as you all know brilliant agri tyres but rubbish in the woods due to there thin tyre wall.

Just after some advice on what I should look at getting next as mine are literally being held together with gators. Shall I bite the bullet with Nokka's or Alliance? Duno any advice is good advice

If you don't go for the full forestry tyres, I would say the Klebers are the next best thing. I had Klebers on my 6400 and never had any bother with them, I did with other brands. I have Nokians on the N series and they are good but I got a deal on a set of wheels and tyres. They are certainly expensive to buy new....

They do take a lot of abuse but they cost a lot too. I have Michelin and they do take a fair amount of abuse. However if your running over a brashmatt a lot then you need the strength of the forest tyre.

I never considered klebers. I've had the set up for 2 1/2 years now and plan to keep it for many more. Nokian's would be my first choice but it's just the initial outlay.

I highly recommend the Trelleborg forestry tyres. We run them on the mulchers and went from dozens of punctures,rips with heaps of down time per month to absolutely zero.They are very hard and there is a trade off with them in terms of traction but they are the right tire for the job

Definately Trelleborgs over Nokians. Can elaborate if required.

No doubt that forestry tyres would be best, but they aren't as good if you do a lot of road work as they are cross ply rather than radial. If you are a tree surgeon you could afford to fit the best non forestry tyre (Kleber IMO), if you are full time in the woods then go for the real mccoy.

 

You can get radial forestry tyres apparently but if you have to ask the price you can't afford them.

Thanks for the links: I have to re-tyre all 8 on the forwarder soon; trelleborgs would cost more than the forwarder!
