Just make sure you don't winch over any rocks or ruff ground as it will wear it out quicker but saying that you can splice them back togeather again no problem,

Iv been useing them for a few years now on my off roaders and they take a lot more abouse them you'd think

I'd never use a wire cable again now

...but you could use some as a cable extension so you don't have to carry as much heavy steel rope around.

Unless the Tirfor steel rope is rotation-resistant (contra-lay), DON'T use a braided rope as an extension!

The braided rope will offer no resistance to the natural tendency of the twisted rope to untwist itself as the load increases, reducing its strength considerably.

A tirfor cable shouldn't untwist as the way the individual wires within the cable run parallel to the cablewhich gives it's smoother nature unlike conversation winch cable which is quite bumpy also some of the bigger 1s have swivel hooks probably for this reason, mine has.
