Japanese knot weed, if you were to dig it up, is it 2m that you have to dig down to and is it possible to burry it and if so how deep does it need to be buried.

For get the digging my mate. Get the strongest legal chemical weed or brush killer and blast it has hard has you can. There are the use'll Guide rules to follow.but just don't tell anyone:thumbup1:

Wait a few more weeks till it starts dying back then spray it with a strong glyphosate mix. Do it same time each year for a few years and it'll be gone.

After it starts dieing would you cut it down leaving a few inches and spray or spray it at its full height.

only way you will get rid of it is stem inject it goes 7 mtrs just inject main stem so it takes it down you will never get rid of it trying to dig it out just snaps and you have more next year

You can dig it. Dig to a depth where no more rhizomes are found which could be over 2m in depth. Also dig either side. In terms of burying you are better to put it in a bund on site if the land is required for building immediately and the bund can be sprayed as knotweed emerges. It can also be disposed of but at a licensed facility. Bury on site is also possible but requires the material to be in a root barrier at a depth I can't remember.

 

We generally spray knotweed with glyphosate 3 times a year for 3 years. Spray as it has just emerged then again in summer which burns off most of the leaves and again after flowering as it is dying back which is going to be mid september time. The idea we base it on is as the knotweed is initially begining to use energy stores knoick it back. When it is in full growth stage mid summer the leaves will die back when sprayed again forcing the use of more stored energy and then just prior to autumn to remove further energy. To kill it requires all the energy stored to be lost.

Spray it and leave it. Put a fence around it saying treatment in progress.

I sprayed it every other week first year no new growth till end August witch I've sprayed only a couple of shouts so will see next year

What's the legal side off spraying on some one else's land?? Next door was asking me to do same for them

read a Defra report about an infestation that was glyphosate treated, seemed to work but reappeared 20yrs later. i have been treating a wasteland for 10 years and the stuff keeps reappearing in different places (it was an industrial site that got bulldozed in the 60's)
