Bought a stihl single sided thinking I'd get done quicker with longer cutter but hated it, with a conventional double sided you cut on up and down stroke so to speak and get a better finish, with single sided your always working one way and hedges grow all sorts of directions especially something like laurel. Think that all made sense!

I like to make every sweep cut and I like to swap sides and stances regularly so my old body is strained equally in all directions so I prefer a double sided blade normally, but, having said that from a fatigue point of view, swinging the damn thing about all day, there`s a definate case for the longest cut at the lightest weight which is probably single sided, so you need both, cheers:biggrin:

I've been using the 86R for the last few years and just bought a 40" 86T with catcher plate. I know my colleagues who are used to the 81, didn't much like using the single sided cutters - but everyone seems to be taken with this new one. It's a pretty well balanced machine considering the size and the longer bar does save a fair bit of time.
