mf 35 cracked block

My old mf 35 has cracked its engine block, it started to overheat yesterday and when i looked it over it was leeking from a 2 inch crack in the block.

What are my options for repairing it, can it be welded, is it worth trying a pour in sealent (k seal type stuff) or do i need a new block?

In 1972 I repaired one that had broken a scab out by one of the injector mount pillars with araldite. It was frost damage with no antifreeze. I ground the pillar down so the device that held the injector in only bore on one side, it went to Pakistan in about 1976 at auction when the farmer went out of business. This was a 4 cylinder model.

 

Subsequently I've mended cast with cracks by metal stitching but lost contact with the bloke that did it, last time in the 90s he charged £10 per inch. I've used cast iron rods too but if you don't heat up the area by the weld with propane torch and let it all cool slowly you get a crack develop alongside the weld.

My T20 cracked it's block, about 2" crack and leaking water. K-seal cured it.

In fact it wasn't K-seal as I couldn't get any of that, I used the dearest one Halfords sell.

 

Mine is a petrol/tvo engine and gets a lot hotter than a diesel.

you can do a weld repair as has been said, Tig prob the easiest but i have also had a good success rate with oxy-acetaline and silver solder on cast iron which may be another option, it`s not scrap,the other methods mentioned are also fine, I think I would try the K seal or similar first, you might be lucky, cheers

Do not use k seal or any other sealer you put in the coolant.

Seen it loads of times on ag and plant. Not just a case of if but when it blocks the rad and water pump and water galleries and head gasket and hoses and heater matrix it will just f*** everything up. Stitch or weld is best way. Having said that........... Is it 3 or 4 cylinder?
