Last of the T2's rolls offthe production line in Brazil in a couple of days.

Never had the pleasure, but always wanted to go off in one around Europe, perhaps one day I will.

Any fond or negative stories about yours?

We grew up with a LHD one which my father sold on when tinworm got the better of it.

It was no speed machine and had a considerable thirst when driven at anything like motorway speed.

But in those pre-seatbelt law days, the parents would get up at about 3am, put us kids (still in pyjamas) into bed in the back and drive from north Staffordshire down to Dover to catch a ferry. We went around much of Northern Europe in it and I guess five hours of the kids being asleep in the back rather than perpetually asking if we were nearly there yet must have been a bonus.

I had one for 13 years, went all round europe in it.

Absolutely brilliant vehicle. Not good for racing, but cheap hols, instant cups of tea whenever you wanted. It was possible to remove the engine in well under an hour (useful as it ate clutches on an annual basis).

My kids all grew up with it and loved it. When it succumbed to a ferric oxide conversion they wanted to use it as a shed in the garden. Sadly not enough room so it went to a VW specialist as a donor vehicle.

Loved it lots BOR 876J lives in our memories

I had a orange and white one in the early nineties when I used to race mountain bikes. Used to put the bike on a bike rack and travel and camp out at the races. Used to look well cool. But they are so cold in the winter to drive, no heater to speak of at all. Has the heater controls but they did not do anything. Fond memories.

Campervan - it's a passion that needs fuelling by cash.

Tru dat! I had one and it sapped loads of cash and broke down loads, it was amazing and a nightmare at the same time. We went to the south of France on holiday in it and it turned a 7 day trip into a 21 day adventure.

Best trip I had in mine was a 2 weeker on the West Coast of Ireland kitesurfing. Ferry from Holyhead to Dublin and then aimed for Inch Strand on the SW. Moved on every day heading North and stayed in the most remote & beautiful places and surfed everyday. Did over 800 miles and it was the most chilled time ever - no agenda, no schedule, no clock, just let's see what's round the next bend........

Had my missus with me (our first time away as girlfriend/boyfriend) and the bus didn't have a poptop, so the 2 weeks were spent in a kinda hunched way.......not that we stood up that much :-)

The feeling of freedom when out on a roadtrip is awesome, but when not in use they are a financial burden.

Wouldn't swap the memories spent in that van for anything!
