Hi All,

I thought I would offer a tipping site foc for chip, brash, logs, rounds etc. at NN14 just off junction 11 A14

I can use the chip as mulch on my willow beds, I can chip the brash myself (I've got an 8" chipper on me old tractor) and feed the woodburners with the rest.

But.. while I was waiting for forum membership approval I stumbled on the legislation threads on waste licence exemptions etc. and found myself reading for the rest of the afternoon, gave myself a bloody headache!

So, before I go bothering the EA for an exemption, does anyone actually want use of a free tipping site here?

Cheers all,

Pete.

Hi All,

So you can demonstrate a legitimate use for any material received

I paraphrase a note from someone in EA:

Virgin wood chip is not waste and therefore does not require a permit

to store/treat/produce.

Virgin timbers are not waste and are not subject to waste regulatory

controls provided they are certain to be used for purposes to which

virgin wood is commonly put. These include use as:

1. woodchip in gardens or on pathways;

2. a raw material for composting;

3 fuel

There are other regulations and planning permission to consider but for small scale I wouldn't worry.

The same does not apply to other plant waste, like grass mowings or hedge clippings, the definition of of virgin timber seems quite precise.

There is some ambiguity in the EA position because they still seem to have kept exemptions for processing and storing woodchip, whether this only applies to "clean" waste wooe. things like unpainted untreated pallets containing no chipboard/mdf isn't clear to me.

Thanks for the clarification catweazel, I was probably reading old threads, then got lost on the EA pages until my head hurt!

Yeah, PM for details hazzygawa, I see it more as mutual back scratching than a kind offer, I spent over a grand on logs last year when I couldn't process my own after doing my back in, and trying to keep up with mulching everywhere that needs it would be a full time job cutting & chipping it all myself :001_smile:
