Total beginner - Seeking advice.

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon everyone!

It's Max here, I am 23 years old, I'm new here and I am just looking for some advice.

I am very new to the Arboriculture, Tree Surgery & Forestry world, I have always taken a keen interest in the craft and I have always seen it as a very rewarding and challenging career path.

Currently I am working a boring, 9-5 job in a customer services environment, however I have an interview coming up at Broomfield college in Derby for the Arboriculture & Forestry Level 2 diploma, if I am successful I will also look into getting my CS30/CS31 certificates during the course, and also look into getting as much work experience as possible. Obviously, it goes without saying that I am willing to work days for free if it meant getting some experience behind me.

When I am not working, I am reading up on trees, techniques and machinery so i can be packed full of knowledge.

Is there anything else I should be doing to help me along?

Any advice is welcome, as I stated I am completely new and all I have to show for myself is willing and a great interest in this field.

I'm sorry for rambling on and I would greatly appreciate any help or advice anybody here has to offer.

Thanks.

Max :001_smile:

Sense of humour intact Max, that will help in this game!

If you have a secure job, my advice would be don't give it up yet. Work all the weekends and holidays you can in this sector. Experience goes a long way, but the chicken-egg thing applies massively. It's unfair, but it's a fact.

Cash wise, down here in the rich South East I have lads ringing me most weeks willing to work for £40/day cash.

I don't want them, but for a lot of firms that is what you are competing against.

Good luck with it, stick around on this site and let us know how you get on.
