Non CE marked kit and implications?

My perception is that there are a number of pieces of equipment evolving outside of Europe (particularly in the USA ) that work well.

Three examples being the:

'singing tree - rope runner' srt device

'Gordon Svedberg's - bull dog bone'

and the

'tree stuff- aerial friction brake' lowering device.

As I understand it these are not CE marked and therefore the UK (or European) dealers can't stock/sell this equipment. However non CE marked kit does migrate across the Atlantic and is being used here.

How do we all stand if are using this equipment or allowing our staff to use this equipment in the work place?

When it comes to the LOLAR inspection what are the implications?

Thoughts please?

David

Only PPE equipment has to be CE marked to pass its LOLER inspection.

If a peice of PPE equipment has not met certain european standard i.e. not CE marked then it can not be used legally in a working environment.

Most equipment produced in the US has met american standards (ANSI marked- American Nattional Standards Institute- I think) then it also has to be tested to european standard by an appointed test centre known as a notified body to be CE compliant.

Like Mattmoss says ce marking is a must for ppe during loler test , but no ce mark necessary for rigging equipment, just needs to fit for pupose for loler test . All equipment used by employees must have a current loler test.
