im toying with the idea of getting a 130 or 110 tipper as this would do away with the pick up and hi lux and save me running two vehicles, i can also then tow 3.5 ton and remove more timber off the job (legally).

What size are the chip boxes, I've seen a few that look a reasonable size but how much chip will they carry. cheers

I have a 110 V8 ...

I would be carefull about towing 3.5 tonne

Hills would be an issue , so ask in a landrover forum ...

Air brakes are mentioned when discussing towing ...

Though many posts suggest landrover is better for real towing .. As opposed to hilux etc...

I owned a hilux & it was fun ... Though landrover heavier & more secure footing whilst towing...

Hope this helps....

It would depend on your trailer & brakes & four wheeled trailer deffo better....

130 are generally 3500kg but check the plate as there are some at 3050kg, 110 are generally 3050kg unless you find a heavy duty one or uprate it to 3500kg, personally I would go for a 130 as the extra wheelbase length and capacity means a decent size with little overhang, but they are harder to find decent second hand ones.

Really ?

I have an ifor tri axle and it virtually puts me through the screen when I pull up sharp especially when loaded, and my twin axle isn't exactly shabby at stopping.

The only time my backside grabs the seat is if it's icy :)

A decently setup trailer will not need air brakes.

How much are you gonna spend Rab?

Capacity wise a 110 will be tiny, a 130 might be the same as your renault, but a different shape. Having coils on the back makes them tow so much better than all the leaf sprung pickups.

That would not be too bad I suppose I think my renault holds about 6 cube do you think a 130 back would hold that? Budget wise I'm not sure yet as I would have 4 vehicles to sell first before I buy one. :001_rolleyes:

110 all the way as this vehicle has the weight more centralised over the axles . 130 full of chip is like steering a boat in choppy waters . Chip wise not an amazing difference . I've run both and now just run the 110 tipper .

Whats the dimensions of your chip box Paul, you have run your 110 for a while now do you find it's too small ? They say size is important or is it how you use it :001_smile:

I have run my 110 tipper for almost 10 years or possibly longer . It has been my main vehicle for the last 5 years . I also run an l200 crew cab which pulls the trailer for timber removal . Chip box size on my 110 is 7ft long by 69 inches wide and 4ft 4" in height . I also have a high tailgate which helps me fill her up . Oh and a sign written heavy duty tarp which cover's the top and sides . I have numerous tip sites in my area of operation which does help . I quite often think of going down the transit route again but I then remember the rust and lack of 4wd .To be perfectly honest my landy is cold in winter and cool in summer . Just ticks all my boxes . I am considering converting the l200 to a tipper only for log deliveries . Hope this helps .

Can dig some random pics out if you wish ? Will be tomorrow though ; )
