Depends on your work, I really can't understand why any one would lug a great heavy 9" chipper when your only blowing the chip onto the back of a 3.5 tonne truck :confused1:

OK if you often leave chip on site a big chipper makes sense, but not if your taking chip home, straight timber takes up less room than chip and the little extra time snedding out is well worth while for the fuel and wear and tear saving, IMO.

Or....they could be towing the chipper with a smaller vehicle and putting the chip in a seven and a half tonner because the driver isn't licenced to tow the chipper with the bigger vehicle.

Just a thought, I have seen it done.

Yes, in that situation a larger chipper would make sense, the point I was making was that if your chip carrying capacity is low and you generally need to remove the chip, a large chipper is not really practical, IMO.

Well I have often said, it's all firewood these days so unless you are leaving chip on site or are sending it to biomas a big chipper isn't the necessity it once was.

Having said that there is nothing quite like a big machine for chucking things in and walking away.:thumbup1:

Understood and I agree. However, all the waste typically has to removed from site whether in log or chip form, the client doesn't care.

I'm not into logs and have no problem getting rid of chips all day long therefore converting as much as possible into chips is best.

Anyway, my thought was to have two 3.5T trucks with a 3.5T tipping trailer and one chipper. It's not the worst idea in the world.
