What to do with this stump?

Hello!

As a favour, I removed a trunk an stump from the local school. The rest of the trunk is split and in the wood store, but I'm left with this stump. It's about 18" to 24" across the trunk if that helps with scale.

I've removed as much root as I can with a bow sort.

Tools at my disposal are 2 chainsaws, a couple of wedges and a couple of splitting mauls, small hatchet, bow saw.

Is there anything I am likely to be able to achieve without wrecking the chains on soil embedded in the stump, or should I just take it to the dump?

I know it's a noobish question!

Any ideas very gratefully received!

Depending on how comfortable you are with plunge cutting, I'd be inclined to plunge cut up the middle, widen the cut out a bit while trying not to break through the side, then split the edges with wedges, driven in to the top face. Once it's in half, I'd do the same again to get it quartered, maybe again into 8ths, and then saw to length with the bow saw. It will take a while, but be manageable. I've done this to a couple of fair sized apples.

This seems workable! Thanks!
