Cambium saver

Hallo,

 

anybody can give me some advises about the cambium/friction saver? I would like to buy one and not sure which size is optimal (is it better shorter or longer?), which type, company...

 

Any help?

Hi turkey oak theres loads out there to buy i have a buckingham one good bit of kit the longer the better in my eyes just double wrap on smaller stems i also have the art pulley cambium so easy to climb on if u have the money treat yourself hope this helps

Hi Turkeyoak, some of the cambium savers are fitted with a small ring and a bigger one. This is probably the simplest configuration.

 

One of mine is a Petzl Treesbee - it has a large ring on one end and a maillon on the other. This allows for more adaptation eg. fitting a pulley to the maillon so that friction is decreased.

 

Have you had a chance to try any out?

about the same price as most savers and you can adjust it to your prefered size.

Go for a long one and make it adjustable with a prussik and ring. easier to retreive than double rapping.

i got one of those sirrus mutlisavers there really good as you can change the length of it which comes in very handy.Make sure u get the longest one tho i think its the 1.50 meter ones.

I started out with a standard simple cambium saver with a ring on both ends, one slightly smaller for retreival.

 

I have had the ART ropeguide since last summer, very expensive to buy, but many climbers make their own version at a fraction of the cost. Good bit of kit tho, saves a lot of energy when ascending! The beauty of this bit of kit is that it has a pulley to eliminate friction, as well as being adjustable like the Multisaver. I would definately buy something adjustable, it is very useful in certain circumstances.

 

If money is no object buy the ART ropeguide, otherwise the multisaver is a good bet.

Thanks a lot for your advises, mates, i thing that i will start with something cheaper and simple at the beginning. Not sure yet what exactly..

In all honesty mate i think all ring to ring cambium saver are the same.

If you buy an Ali ring to ring friction saver keep an eye on it rubbing together and causing nasty burrs.
