hi guys just wondering if anyone can suggest something to descend on a wire winch cable with obviously rope wont do due to any broke strands etc, would a normal rope grab work? can see them wearing quick due to them being alloy. cheers guys

i dont know if a rope grab would cinch properly? doesnt it need the fabric layer to grip? thats a puzzle that one, i was thinking maybe webbing slings on a klemheist, but any broken strands on the wire would mess that up too.

Yeah, can't believe I can't find anything. Seems I've got two options, either upgrade to plasma winch rope which isn't worth it cost wise or give ur webbing idea a go, there will only be one or two strands at most so maybe I'm being a bit over cautios

Another of my pointless ideas!
Basically I've done quite a few trees where I've clinmbed up, put my winch cable up to pull it over, before depending on height I've either took my climbing rope up and came down on that or , naughty I know, held onto the cable as I've climbed down. Just wondering if there was a rope-grab-like device u could fasten onto the winch cable to descend with?

Can u not use a throwline then tie it to an old rope so you can pull the cable over ? Height restriction apply I know . Sometimes we,ve done this and tied the rope to the landy and winched it up and over your target branch .

Not sure what u mean mate, it's not a problem getting the cable up there, just looking for a way to get back down usin said cable.

You can get cable up in tree no probs . Ok sorry .

If you climb up with ya rope why do you want to look at comin down on the cable ?

hahaha like i said its a bit of a pointless idea but it'd just save taking a climbing rope as generally i just spike a flip line up.

Gotcha Suppose when you got some tension on the cable you could do a big zipline ride .
