Stihl 021 Vs 021c

Hi all

I have my grandfather's old stihl 021 that has a damaged crankcase - looks like he managed to get it too hot. My dad looked at it a few years back and decided the parts back then were too expensive. I have had a look on e-bay and it looks like second hand parts are relatively cheap.

I want to learn more about chainsaws and to me having to strip one right back to change the crankcase would teach me a lot.

I was wondering what the difference is between the 021 and the 021c is as there is a good crank case going for an 021c and I wondered if it would fit my grandfathers 021?

Any help gratefully received and I'll post my repair in the what's on your bench thread so you can see how I get on

Thanks in advace

If I remember correctly, the only difference is in the plastic recoil starter cover, the C is for easy starting - there's an extra spring, or something.

Everything else about the saw should be the same, crank case definitely I would have said

Like the guy before said, assume you mean you've bought a new tank/engine housing as that model only has the little clam shell type of crank case. If you've bought a tank that suits the model with a primer bulb and the one you're fixing doesn't have one, I don't think it's going to be too much of a problem, just seal off the return on the fuel tank. Otherwise I think it should all go back together. 021, 023, 025 are all pretty much interchangeable bits.

Good information. Thank you so much.
