GPS recommendations?

Been thinking more recently that a decent gps would be a good thing to have. I guess my wishlist would be:

Reasonably waterproof/shockproof

Rechargeable rather than replaceable batteries

Able to upload/download data easily

Having some sort of OS map for terrain etc onboard

Road details and directions although not primarily for road use.

Nice statistics .. conversion between OS and GPS coordinates.

Easy to draw simple maps (Not looking for complex surveying capability but just to mark boundaries of sites etc)

Emergency functions?

Decent screen day and night

And most of all cheap!

Any ideas?

You can get waterproof and shockproof covers for smartphones and tablets - that's what I would use. A ruggedised GPS device will will set you back around £800 and upwards, and most are Windows mobile based so have fairly limited functionality meaning you'd need to buy GIS software to load on to it....

I have a Trimble Geo XT that I would sell if you're interested...
