Any truth in em?

Ten minutes before leaving for work today the missus screams her head off in the bedroom, biggest spider you've ever seen in your life according to her....:sneaky2:

Her mum reckons keep a conker in every corner and spiders won't come in.

That one doesn't work as the wife tried it along with a load of other magic products. Just need to convince her that the magic beans I've got will work

I collect a few bags of conkers each year for folks who believe it to work. They are repeat customers so can't complain.

I had a look into it for my own curiosity and the usual yes-no debate was the result. Sometimes old wives tales make people feel a bit better which can only be a good thing.

You should never give chewing gum to a dog, apparently it wraps itself aroung their heart and kills them.

Originated in the Egham area from what I recall

(cant believe I wasted any part of my life even repeating that)!

"One day the wind will change and your face will stick like that!"

Usually said to children that are pulling faces.

A week or so ago I noticed that the wind had indeed changed direction, It had been coming from the NW and changed to the SE. I commented to my missus that the wind had changed direction.

"Humph!" she said. "My face didn't bloody well stick after all did it!!"

I seriously think she had been believing me. (she is proper blonde!)
