Hi I have been working as a draughtsman and measured building surveyor for over a decade and looking for a career change. I am used to travelling and some outdoor work.

I like the idea of working outdoors with trees and would like to ask if anyone would be wiling to give me say a days experience so I can see if it is for me.

Plus if anyone has any advice about how to get into the profession, what's the best route etc.

I am 35, have stayed fit just looking for an opportunity, I work hard.

Welcome

So my point of view is yes get some hands on even if you have to do it for free.

If you think you like it go and book your self on the basic courses. There might be a centre near by providing nptc quals.

Ive forgotten what numbers they are now, but what used to be cs30,31 and 38.

This will give you pretty much everything to start out as a groundsman.

Still enjoying go for chipper ticket cs39, chipper will complete a basic alround groundsman and cs39 enabling you to climbing whilst using a saw.

Have a look o. The internet for local tree firms and give them a call bud

All the best
